Michael Hinz has extensive work experience in the insurance industry. Michael started their career at Munich Re in 1993, where they worked as a Marine Underwriter and Deputy Team Leader. Michael then moved to Munich Re of Africa in 2005, where they served as the Head of Corporate Actuarial and Underwriting Services. In 2008, they returned to Munich Re and became the Senior Executive Manager and Head of Marine Underwriting.
In 2012, Hinz joined Tokio Millennium Re AG as the Chief Underwriting Officer for the Zurich Branch. Michael later became the Head of Underwriting and Operations and then the Head of Underwriting for the company.
Hinz joined Swiss Re in 2016 as the Head of Casualty Treaty Underwriting Northeast Europe/EMEA Motor Portfolio Owner. Michael was responsible for managing and developing Swiss Re's casualty portfolio, as well as leading the EMEA Motor portfolio. During their time at Swiss Re, they also focused on driving innovation and developing new insurance and portfolio management solutions.
Most recently, Hinz joined KOREAN RE in 2019, initially as the Deputy Chief Underwriting Officer, before being promoted to Chief Underwriting Officer in April 2021. In their role, they have been focused on expanding Korean Re's presence in Europe and providing continuity and consistency for their European clients and partners. Overall, Hinz has demonstrated expertise in underwriting, operations, leadership, and driving profitable growth in the insurance industry.
Michael Hinz holds a Chartered Insurer degree from The Chartered Insurance Institute, which they obtained in 2002. Prior to that, from 1999 to 2001, they attended Deutsche Versicherungsakademie (DVA) and earned a degree in Versicherungsbetriebswirt (DVA). In 2009, they enrolled at ESMT Berlin. Apart from their formal education, Michael also obtained the ESET Cyber Security Awareness Training Certificate from ESET North America in 2021.
