Luis Toranzo

Dr. Luis Toranzo joined KPFF in 2003. He has become proficient in advanced structural analyses and performance-based seismic design/retrofit of structures including Healthcare, Education, Civic, and Laboratory. His work with AMGEN, a large California-based biotech company, is being used to evaluate the performance of critical components of their facility in order to make prudent investments in seismic improvements. He has collaborated with the hospital approval agency, OSHPD, in the development and implementation of HAZUS to conduct seismic evaluations of the state of California's inventory of hospital structures. He specializes in advanced structural analyses and performance-based seismic design/retrofit of structures. He has conducted over 100 seismic evaluations and retrofit designs of existing structures utilizing various methodologies such as ASCE 41, FEMA 356, HAZUS, and others, as well as client-specific performance evaluations. He is highly respected in the structural engineering community. He has published many papers on seismic performance and advanced analysis methodologies and lectured for seven years at UCLA teaching performance-based design at the graduate level.
