Randy Depew has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Randy began their career in 1996 as a Lead Teacher at The Digital Safari Academy @ Mt. Diablo High School. In 2001, they joined Brandman University, Part of the Chapman University System as an Adjunct Faculty member. At KQED, they held multiple roles, starting as a Lead Instructional Designer from January 2014 to May 2017, and later becoming the Managing Director of Education from May 2017 to the present. Their work experience showcases their expertise in education and instructional design.

Randy Depew holds a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree in Organizational Leadership from Brandman University, which they obtained from 2012 to 2015. Prior to that, they earned a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Chapman University, where they studied from 1996 to 2000. Their educational journey started at the University of California, Berkeley in 1989, where they completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Chemistry from 1989 to 1993.
