Kununurra Waringarri Aboriginal Corporation
Kununurra Waringarri Aboriginal Corporation (KWAC) is a trusted Aboriginal-led not-for-profit organisation based in Kununurra, WA, on Miriwoong Country. Since 1979, we’ve been delivering a wide range of culturally grounded, community-led programs that strengthen families, support vulnerable community members, and empower the next generation. Our work spans from frontline services including the Community Connectors outreach and Sober Up Shelter, to long-term wellbeing initiatives like the Strong Men’s Program, Empowering Youth activities, Media Magic film workshops, and the KEY School Holiday Program, which provides engaging and culturally safe school holiday activities. We also support families through the Children are Learning (CaL) program, which helps improve school attendance and learning outcomes through practical, tailored family support, and through our Remote Community Connector (RCC) service, which assists Aboriginal people in understanding and accessing the NDIS. KWAC is proud to be leading Learning on Dawang, a new on-country initiative co-designed with community to re-engage children aged 8–12 who are at risk of becoming disconnected from learning. This culturally grounded model responds to the growing call for community-led solutions that reflect Aboriginal ways of knowing, being, and doing. With 90% Aboriginal staff and a 100% Miriwoong Board, our leadership is deeply embedded in cultural knowledge and lived experience. Everything we do is driven by the principle: by community, for community, to strengthen community.
