Mikko Hakulinen started their work experience as a Physicist at the University of Eastern Finland in 1998. Mikko then became a PhD student at the same university from January 2002 to June 2006. In September 2006, they joined the University of Kuopio as a Project Manager / Post-doc Researcher until January 2008. From February 2008 to April 2017, they worked as a Medical Physicist at Kuopio University Hospital. Currently, Mikko Hakulinen holds the position of Deputy Chief Physicist at Kuopio University Hospital.

Mikko earned a Master of Science degree in Medical Physics from the University of Eastern Finland from 1998 to 2004. Following this, they pursued a PhD in Medical Physics from 2002 to 2006 at the same university, specializing in the field of Medical Physics.
After completing their PhD, Mikko continued their education at the University of Eastern Finland, where they obtained the degree of Medical Physicist from 2004 to 2010.
In 2010, Mikko also gained qualification as a Specialist Medical Physicist (EFOMP) in Nuclear Medicine and Clinical Physiology through the Finnish Association of Medical Physicists.
Furthermore, Mikko became an Adjunct Professor in Medical Imaging at the University of Eastern Finland in 2010.
More recently, in 2019, Mikko pursued further education at the Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority, where they obtained certification as a Radiation Safety Expert, specializing in the use of radiation in industry and research.
