Kuryłowicz & Associates

Architecture is a discipline that engages knowledge, imagination, ingenuity and worldview of those creating it. Not all designs developed have a chance to be executed, and not all of them are created to be executed, either; however, those that get to fully materialise are also the emanation of the personality of people who must be able to safely navigate through the troubled waters of problems, consents from authorities and unforeseeable circumstances while retaining the major characteristics that are the essence of the building designed and its architecture. Such a team is not built in one day. In our studio, it was built by Prof. Stefan Kuryłowicz (1949 – 2011) with participation of Prof. Ewa Kuryłowicz, both actively involved, in parallel, in teaching architectural design, and in design work and architectural execution. It was developed for over 25 years by teachers and their students and then their common colleagues; from Warsaw but sometimes also from other cities and schools. This explains our typical profile of activities, one based on research and analytical approach; looking for an idea behind each of our designs and for solutions that are both pragmatic and unique. What the entire team of Kuryłowicz & Associates has in common is the shared approach to how the essence of each issue is formulated and solved as a challenge and opportunity to find truth about yet another piece of space, and then how to display those characteristics of that truth which help live and understand life, not only here and now, but also in the future; always aiming to improve space – to the extent enabled by the power of architecture.
