Michael Donovan is a highly experienced academic in Indigenous education, currently serving as Pro Vice Chancellor Indigenous at La Trobe University since September 2022 and as a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the University of Newcastle since July 2020. Previously, Michael was Academic Director Indigenous Learning and Teaching at Macquarie University from September 2018 to September 2022, and held various roles related to Indigenous education during that time. Michael's work as a Fulbright Scholar from August 2019 to July 2020 focused on Indigenous cultural success in Hawaiian Charter Schools, promoting educational change through engagement with cultural values. With a strong background in Indigenous pedagogy, Michael has also contributed significantly as a Senior Lecturer at the Wollotuka Institute, University of Newcastle, from 1996 to 2020. Michael holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Education from the University of Newcastle and two Bachelor of Teaching degrees from the University of Western Sydney.
