Erik founded the parent of Labor Law Plus, Transatlantic Law International, in London in 2001 after more than 20 years of international legal and management experience, including in European General Counsel positions for Fortune 50 companies in Brussels and Luxembourg, where he was responsible for all legal aspects of European operations including significant areas of labor and employment law.
Under his direction, the service has grown from an original 15 country presence in Europe to a global presence, serving primarily global businesses in multiple countries worldwide.
In the labor and employment sector, Erik advises multinationals and other growing companies and investors in labor and employment aspects of investing and restructuring internationally, including all L&E aspects of mergers and acquisitions, opening and closing offices, downsizing, transfer of employees between subsidiaries, transfer of undertakings, global mobility and non-competition, data privacy, employee monitoring, and non-competition and protection of IPR agreements, among many other areas.
In the M&A sector, he has completed or negotiated over 80 major transactions with a deal value of more than $5 billion in every European country and in Asia since 1992, ranging from mid-cap single country acquisitions to billion-dollar cross border acquisitions and joint ventures.
Prior to moving to Europe in 1991, Erik worked as a corporate and litigation lawyer in leading U.S. law firms in Boston and New York.
He has lectured extensively before bar associations and corporate groups in the United States and in Europe on topics including key issues in cross-border movement of executives, as well as global non-competition agreements, European M&A, corporate governance, distribution and agency agreements, and antitrust and compliance programs, among other matters.
He is also senior outside advisor to a number of Fortune 500 companies on executive labor and employment issues including all legal aspects of executive contracts and cross-border movement of executives among his other areas of practice.
He is an honors graduate of Yale University and of the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where he edited the Communications and Entertainment Law Journal (Comm/Ent), and is a member of the bars of New York and Massachusetts. He speaks French and German and resides in London.
