Denis Shepelin

Data Scientist at LabTwin

Denis Shepelin has a strong background in data science and machine learning. Denis is currently working as a Data Scientist at LabTwin, where they are responsible for the full cycle development of ML solutions, with a focus on NLP-related approaches. Prior to this, they served as a Machine Learning Research Project Lead at the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, leading a small team in designing ML/AI models for projects in Life Sciences.

Denis also gained experience as a PHD Student at The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability, where they created predictive models for organisms, performed data analysis and visualization, and curated databases of biological data. Denis also worked as a Research Assistant at the same institution.

In addition, Denis has worked as a Visiting Research Scientist at Novozymes, applying NLP-based models and developing tools for descriptive and predictive analytics in protein engineering. Denis started their career as a Junior Research Scientist at Ajinomoto-Genetika Research Institute and later worked as a Junior Research Fellow in Machine Learning at Pathway Pharmaceuticals.

Denis Shepelin pursued their education with a Bachelor's degree in Biology at Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) from 2011 to 2015. Denis then continued their studies at the same institution, completing a Master's degree in Biology/Biological Sciences, General, from 2015 to 2017. In 2018, Denis embarked on a new academic endeavor, enrolling at the DTU - Technical University of Denmark, where they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Computational Biology, which they successfully completed in 2021.
