David Frenz, M.D. has a diverse work experience in the healthcare field. David is currently serving as the Chief Medical Officer at Aspirus Health Plan and Osceola Medical Center. Prior to this, they worked as the Medical Director at PreferredOne and Allina Health, where they provided medical direction and contributed to healthcare initiatives. David also held the role of Vice President & Executive Medical Director at North Memorial Health. In addition, Dr. Frenz has experience in academia, working as an Adjunct Assistant Professor and Instructor at the University of Minnesota. David has also worked as an Instructor at Professionals in Residence Program, Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation. Dr. Frenz's expertise is in mental health and addiction medicine, and they have their own private practice as a Mental Health & Addiction Medicine Physician. Throughout their career, they have showcased leadership abilities as a Chief Resident and has contributed to the medical community as a Contributing Editor for Today's Hospitalist.
David Frenz, M.D. completed their education starting in 1985 at Brainerd High School where they graduated. David then went on to attend Macalester College from 1988 to 1992, earning a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Biology & Chemistry. Afterward, they pursued their medical education at the University of Minnesota Medical School from 1997 to 2001, obtaining their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in Medicine.
In addition to their educational background, Dr. Frenz has obtained several certifications throughout their career. In 1996, they became a Scientific Fellow of the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (ACAAI). David obtained their Medical License from the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice in 2002 and a Medical License from the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services in August 2022.
Dr. Frenz has also obtained multiple board certifications and fellowships. David became a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine in 2004. In 2008, they earned a Certificate of Added Qualification from the American Society of Addiction Medicine. In 2009, they became a Diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM). In 2016, they became a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and in 2018, they became a Diplomate of the American Board of Preventative Medicine in Addiction Medicine.
