Zemek has a robust background in public service and military operations, currently serving as a firefighter at Lafayette County Fire Department since August 2019. Previous experience includes a role as Operations Officer in the Army Reserve from June 2012 to December 2021 and a distinguished career in the US Army, retiring in July 2017. Zemek is also a retired Law Enforcement Officer with the Mississippi State Trooper from October 1999 to May 2017, and served in the United States Marine Corps from August 1993 to January 2001. Educational credentials include a Master of Business Administration from American Military University and studies at the University of Mississippi.

The Lafayette County Fire Department is an all-hazards combination fire department that provides emergency services to the unincorporated areas of Lafayette County, as well as, the municipalities of Taylor and Abbeville. Currently, the department operates 15 fire stations, two of which are manned with part-time staffs, and 42 pieces of rolling equipment.
