Alan Schwartz is a distinguished academic and professional in the field of medical education, currently serving as The Michael Reese Endowed Professor of Medical Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago since August 1997. Schwartz has held various leadership roles at the university, including Interim Head and Associate Head, with a focus on medical judgment and decision making, as well as organizational analysis and research design. In addition to academic responsibilities, Schwartz is the President of the Society for Medical Decision Making, Director of the APPD LEARN initiative, and is the Founder and Principal of the Institute for Practice and Provider Performance Improvement, Inc., which enhances healthcare delivery through customized evaluations. A prolific contributor to medical decision-making literature, Schwartz served as Founding Editor-in-Chief of MDM Policy & Practice and Editor-in-Chief of Medical Decision Making. Education credentials include a Ph.D. in Psychology and an M.S. in Organizational Behavior from the University of California, Berkeley, alongside ongoing legal studies at the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law.
