Merle Walker

Volunteer Program Manager at Lake Metroparks

Merle Walker has a diverse range of work experience spanning several decades. Merle started their career in 1979 as an Activity Director at Novak Enterprises. From 1984 to 2016, they served as the CEO of Special Socials and the Special Socials Urban Farm Project. In this role, they were responsible for overseeing daily operations and managing staff. In 1987, they worked as an Activities Administration/QMRP at Broadview Developmental Center, where they oversaw daily activity programs for people with special needs. In 1990, Merle joined Lake Metroparks as a Volunteer Program Manager, where they directed and managed volunteers, developed recruitment strategies, and trained staff. Merle also served as a Volunteer Mentor at Living Truth Center from 2009 to 2012. In 2012, they joined Cert as a Memberships. Additionally, Merle has been a Member of the Board at the Forum for Volunteer Administrators since 2015. Throughout their various roles, Merle has demonstrated their dedication to volunteer management, human resource management, and community engagement.

From 1975 to 1979, Merle Walker attended the Indiana Institute of Technology, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Recreation Management.
