The County borders Charlotte, North Carolina to the north, which means we offer the ideal combination of access to big-city excitement with hometown comfort and outdoor pursuits. Lancaster County is home to four cities:  the county seat is in Lancaster with a population of nearly 10,000, and the other cities are Kershaw, Heath Springs, and Van Wyck.

Lancaster County operates under the Council-Administrator form of government with a seven‐member County Council elected by district. The County has approximately 684 full-time positions.
