Lei Xu has a diverse work experience spanning over 16 years. Lei is currently a Co-Founder and CTO at LanceDB, a company they joined in November 2021. Prior to LanceDB, they held the position of a Hadoop Committer and PMC at The Apache Software Foundation since June 2015.
Lei Xu also worked at Cruise, where they served as a Staff Software Engineer from December 2020 to August 2021, and as a Senior Software Engineer from May 2018 to December 2020. Before Cruise, they worked at Cloudera as a Software Engineer from June 2014 to May 2018, focusing on the HDFS team and working on projects related to HDFS Erasure Coding and OZone.
From 2008 to 2014, Lei Xu worked at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as a Research Assistantship. There, they were the founder of VSFS, a high-performance large-scale searchable file system, and worked on projects involving Linux kernel Virtual File Systems and storage systems optimization.
Lei Xu has also gained experience at Google, where they completed two internships: one as a Software Engineering Intern in 2012 and another as a Software Engineer Intern in 2011.
Additionally, Lei Xu has earlier experience at Roxbeam.com as a Software Engineer, where they worked on P2P backend-servers, and at Sina Com Technology (China) Co. LTD as a Storage Optimizing Engineer.
Lei Xu earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Computer Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 2008 to 2014. Prior to that, from 2001 to 2005, Xu obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronic Science and Technology, as well as a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Science and Technology, both from Wuhan University.
