Maksym Polyakov

Maksym Polyakov is a Senior Economist at Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research since March 2020, specializing in economic aspects related to environmental assets and ecological restoration. Previously, Maksym served as a Senior Research Fellow at The University of Western Australia, focusing on bioeconomic modeling and the valuation of trees and green space in urban environments. Earlier experience includes roles as a Research Associate at North Carolina State University, where a stand-level harvest choice model for the US Forest Assessment System was developed, and a Research Fellow at Auburn University, examining the impact of property tax policy on land use in the Southern United States. Maksym began a career in research as a YSSP participant at IIASA, concentrating on the Ukrainian forest sector. Educational credentials include a PhD in Applied Economics from Auburn University, an MSc in Land Management from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and an Engineer of Forestry degree from the National Agricultural University of Ukraine in Kyiv.
