Peter Buchanan

Peter Buchanan has extensive experience in mycology and systematics, currently serving as the Science Team Leader for the Systematics Team at Landcare Research since July 1992. This team specializes in various fields, including botany and entomology, and manages five national biological collections, contributing significantly to New Zealand's biosecurity and biodiversity knowledge. Prior to this role, Peter Buchanan worked as a Mycologist and Programme Leader at DSIR from December 1978 to June 1992, focusing on wood decay fungi and edible mushrooms. Peter Buchanan holds a Bachelor of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in Mycology from The University of Auckland, completed from 1976 to 1982, and attended Lynfield College and Wesley Intermediate for earlier education.
