Prior to joining the firm, James worked in Leeds for over 14 years with a large international legal practice. Now based in the Langleys York office, James is the Head of Dispute Resolution, specialising in resolving commercial disputes.

His broad commercial disputes expertise includes engineering, manufacturing and IT disputes as well as shareholder disputes (including family owned businesses), restraint of trade and professional negligence claims against accountants, lawyers and other professionals.

James has particular expertise in claims for civil fraud (breach of fiduciary duty, deceit, conspiracy, breach of trust) including claims against directors for misfeasance. He also has significant experience securing and defending freezing injunctions, search and seizure orders and mandatory injunctions.

As well as acting for companies, utilities, individuals and financial institutions, James is also frequently instructed by the European Commission, for whom he has acted for many years.

Clients describe James as very skilful and patient and he and his team are ranked in Legal 500 and described as ‘very experienced’ and having ‘excellent commercial understanding’. James qualified as a solicitor in 1997.
