Chief Academic Officer at Language On Schools

Richard McDorman has a diverse work experience that spans several industries and roles. Richard is currently the Chief Academic Officer at Language On Schools since November 2016. In addition, they also serve as a CEA Specialized Contractor at the COMMISSION ON ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROGRAM ACCREDITATION since January 2021. Richard has held various positions within the commission, including Chair of Nominating Committee in 2020 and Commissioner from 2016 to 2018. Richard is also the owner of McDorman Translations, where they work as a Certified Translator and Language Consultant since January 1999. Previously, they worked at Educational Testing Service (ETS) as a Standardized Test Essay Rater from December 2008 to January 2018. Before that, Richard held multiple roles at inlingua Florida, including Director of Programs and Professional Development from June 2007 to October 2016, Coordinator of Teacher Training and Test Preparation from June 2005 to June 2007, and English, Latin and Test Preparation Instructor from October 2003 to June 2005. Richard also worked as a Lector of Romance Languages at The University of Chicago during the 1995-1996 academic year and served as an ESL Instructor at Madison House in Charlottesville, VA from September 1990 to May 1992.

Richard McDorman has an extensive educational background. Richard began their education in 1990 at the University of Virginia, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) with Highest Distinction in Linguistics in 1994. Following this, they pursued further studies at the University of Chicago, completing a Master of Arts (MA) in Linguistics from 1994 to 1997.

In 1999, McDorman enrolled at the University of Miami, where they earned a Master of Liberal Studies (MLS) in Liberal Studies, completing this program in 2003.

Later on, in 2009, they attended New York University to obtain a Professional Certificate in Translation, specializing in Spanish to English Translation. Building on this, they pursued a Graduate Certificate in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Penn State University, which they obtained between 2011 and 2012.

Continuing their focus on translation, McDorman returned to New York University in 2014 and completed a second Professional Certificate in Translation, this time in General Translation, in 2016.

In addition to their academic achievements, McDorman has also obtained a certification as a Certified Translator from the American Translators Association in December 2010.
