Carolyn Schmies

Dean, South Campus at Laredo Community College

Carolyn Schmies is currently the Dean of South Campus at Laredo Community College. Carolyn has over 40 years of experience in various leadership roles.

Carolyn began their career with General Motors Corporation in 1971, where they worked their way up to Manager of the Packard Electric Division. In 1995, they transitioned to Purchasing Administrator for Packard Electric Mexico Operations. Carolyn left GM in 2002 and became a Consultant for the South Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse in 2008. In 2009, they took on the role of Sales Director for Diversified Qualified Services of Indiana, LLC.

Carolyn has been with Laredo Community College since 2010 and was recently promoted to Dean of South Campus.

Carolyn Schmies has a MA in Communications from Ball State University and a BA in Speech Communication and Rhetoric from Anderson University.

Carolyn Schmies reports to Ricardo J. Solis, President. Carolyn Schmies works with Obed Guerrero - Community & Media Relations Director, Sandra L. Cortez - Dean, Community Education, and Gabriel Lozano - Grant Writer & Planner.
