Lott started their career as a Professional Freelancer, responsible for finding news and generating content for Sporting News and Omnisport online. Thomas then became Managing Editor at their previous company and won multiple awards including 1st Place Sports Photography and 1st Place Headline Writing.

In July 2013, Lott became Sports Editor and was responsible for the sports section of the paper. Thomas also started a twitter account that has gradually been growing. In December 2014, they won 1st Place Headline Writing Division II and 2nd Place Sports Writing Division II at the Panhandle Press Association Award.

Lott has been with Laredo Morning Times since 2017 and has been instrumental in growing their sports section.

Thomas Lott's educational career includes a Bachelor's degree in Journalism from Texas Tech University, as well as diplomas from Cinco Ranch High School and McMeans Junior High.
