Irene Josey

Treasurer at Larimer County

Irene Josey was elected Larimer County Treasurer in 2014, after serving as the appointed Chief Deputy Treasurer since 1988. She is now serving in her second four-year term. She began her career in the Treasurer's Office in 1986 - gathering the knowledge and practical experience to assume leadership of the Office 28 years later. Irene has developed a strong knowledge of relevant Colorado State Statutes and knows how to apply the law to the safe investment of public funds, and to the effective management of the County Treasury. Irene’s focus is on applying best practices in tax collection, public funds investing, and excellent customer service.

During her tenure as Treasurer, Irene has ushered in a new tax collection system that was developed and built specifically for her office by the county’s Information Technology staff and reconfigured the office entrance lobby and public visitation area to enhance the visitor experience. The new tax collection system has proven to be accurate, efficient, and reliable and has improved service to Larimer County taxpayers. The new lobby is bright and spacious, providing a more effective and now, safer service area to customers; and displays a fascinating array of historical photographs and memorabilia from Larimer County’s history, including a long-absent safe, happily returned to its home at the Treasurer’s Office.
