Suprotik Basu is an advisor at Last Mile Health. Suprotik previously worked as a global health equity scholar at Alliance for a Healthier World from October 2018 to May 2019, where they drafted an Open Access policy pledge to be used at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutes. Suprotik also conducted a landscape analysis of low-cost diagnostic tools laboratories and organized a workshop for different stakeholders within the Johns Hopkins University and other national and international agencies to discuss facilitators and barriers in bringing low-cost diagnostics tools to market, with a special focus on low-and middle-income countries.
From September 2016 to May 2018, Suprotik worked as a program manager for Right to Health Care at Compañeros en Salud | Partners in Health Mexico. In this role, they oversaw the care of over 500 patients, connecting them to second and third level of care, and addressing barriers to access to care. Suprotik also facilitated nearly 3,000 specialist visits and 100 surgeries through the public health care system. Additionally, Suprotik led a team of eight people, including a physician, social workers, staff, and post-university volunteers; developed and implemented a system of monitoring and evaluation; and coordinated logistical and medical support for rural clinic physicians and their patients, including scheduling appointments and medical studies. Suprotik also managed a annual budget, allocating resources according to patient needs; built and sustained relationships with key stakeholders in the public healthcare system, including hospital directors, state medical coordinators, attending physicians in regional hospitals and social work directors; wrote a first author research paper describing how the Right to Health Care program addresses multidimensional barriers that rural patients face in accessing specialized care in Chiapas, Mexico; and recorded the program activities, expenses, impact and outcomes for grant reporting.
Suprotik Basu has a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, a Diploma in Global Health and Social Medicine from Tecnológico de Monterrey, and a Doctor of Medicine from Tecnológico de Monterrey. Suprotik also has a certification in Persuasive Writing from eCornell, a certification in Program Management and Leadership from The Management Center, and a certification in Strategic Leadership Principles & Tools for Health Systems Transformation in Developing Countries from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
