Brooke Gilmer

Brooke Gilmer has extensive experience in special education, currently serving in a role focused on special education assessment with Lauderdale County Schools since January 2022. Previously, Gilmer was the Director of Special Education for the Lauderdale County Board of Education from March 2000 to August 2023, overseeing services for over 1,000 IDEA-eligible students across nine schools, managing budgets, and providing support to special education staff. Notable achievements include developing programs for students with disabilities transitioning from incarceration or hospital settings, initiating Project Search for high school students with cognitive disabilities, and creating specialized settings for elementary students with emotional or behavioral challenges. Earlier roles included Eligibility Specialist and Special Education Teacher, alongside teaching as an Adjunct Professor at the University of North Alabama. Academic credentials include a Master's degree in Educational Leadership and Administration and another in Special Education from the University of North Alabama, complemented by a Bachelor's degree in Special Education.
