Learn German America is an independent educational initiative based in the United States offering German language instruction for children, teens, and adults. The program supports learners across the country, both in major cities and beyond, including homeschooling families, bilingual households, and learners seeking an alternative to standardized instruction.

German is taught as a practical and usable language connected to real life contexts such as family, school, work, media, and history. Lessons combine grammar, vocabulary, listening, and speaking in context so learners understand how the language works instead of memorizing isolated rules. Instruction is designed for Americans learning German in an American educational and cultural environment and draws on direct experience with the German education system in an explanatory and comparative way.

A core focus is dialog based learning. Students work with conversations, situational dialogues, and short narrative formats including crime stories. Language learning at Learn German America connects culture, identity, and free expression, allowing learners to communicate authentically while developing an understanding of German linguistic structures. Differences between German and American styles of expression are discussed openly and transparently.

The educational approach is informed by brain friendly learning principles associated with Vera F. Birkenbihl, emphasizing understanding before constant correction. Media literacy, cultural history, and political awareness are available as optional components, depending on the interests and goals of learners and families.

Learn German America offers individual tutoring, small group courses, family and bilingual support, exam preparation, history and culture courses, AI and digital literacy programs, as well as workshops and intensive formats.

Learn German America, formerly Jacobi Teacher German Lessons, was founded in 2015.
