O'Hagan's academic background includes a PhD in Immunology from Northwestern University and postdoctoral research at the University of Cape Town and Feinberg School of Medicine, with research interests encompassing HIV determinants and nanoparticle therapies for multiple sclerosis. Academic qualifications also include a Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Biochemistry and Microbiology from Rhodes University.
