Ms. Nour Hajjar joined LAU in 2014. She serves as General Counsel and Head of Compliance of the university and its medical centers, namely LAU Medical Center–Rizk Hospital and LAU Medical Center–Saint John’s Hospital.
She is responsible for legal and compliance matters in the United States and Lebanon, including all matters related to oversight by the university’s Board of Trustees.
Ms. Hajjar ensures that all of the university’s and its medical centers’ activities are in compliance with the LAU constitution, bylaws and applicable policies, as well as with higher education laws and medical laws.
Ms. Hajjar is also responsible for policy drafting and compliance.
She provides legal supervision and support toward all major LAU initiatives, as well as in relation to all contractual matters, including employment, agreements with suppliers, real estate property purchases, affiliation agreements and grants between LAU and other educational and medical institutions in Lebanon and abroad.
She also provides legal guidance pertaining to the development of subsidiary identities and all contractual agreements needed for LAU and its medical centers’ operations, initiatives and growth.
Her position at LAU is a continuation of her impressive career as an attorney. She initially advised private corporations and non-profit organizations on sound corporate structuring and governance.
She then went on to work at Alem & Associates in Beirut, where she represented multinational, regional and local corporate entities in various fields of business.
That experience allowed her to greatly expand her knowledge of international law, as she represented businesses based on the governing laws of the countries where they were incorporated.
It also led to her being chosen as the Senior Legal Consultant for GroupMed Insurance Brokers entities in the Middle East and North Africa. There, she was in charge of the operations’ legal support, ensuring the compliance of each company’s activities particularly with statutory and regulatory requirements.
Ms. Hajjar holds an LL.B. in Law and a master’s degree in private and business law from Saint Joseph University in Beirut, as well as an Inter-University Diploma in Medical Law from Lorraine University in France and ESA Business School in Beirut. Ms. Hajjar is a member of the Beirut Bar Association.
She is an active volunteer with the Lebanese Red Cross’ Beirut branch, and worked in their Headquarters Internal Affairs Department as Legal Director.
