Mr. Simon L. Sakr was appointed Assistant Vice President for Finance - Corporate Affairs in September 2016, following a long career with LAU. He first joined the university in 1988 as a cashier in the Business Office on the Byblos campus. Between 1988 and 1997, Mr. Sakr held several positions with increasing responsibility, until promoted to Assistant Comptroller — a central position for both campuses — in 2001. In 2008, he became Central Comptroller, and advanced to become Assistant Vice President for Finance - University Comptroller in October 2015.
In his current role, Mr. Sakr handles all aspects of central corporate finance and accounting for LAU and its affiliated entities. He leads the team responsible for LAU’s compliance with American and Lebanese taxation and audit requirements, treasury and investments, financial reporting, local and U.S. compliance. He also manages the university’s financial data system.
Mr. Sakr earned an M.B.A. from LAU in 1997. He also holds a Maitrise in Physics from the Lebanese University.
