John Kenagy

Chief Information and Administrative Officer at Legacy Health

John Kenagy is the current Chief Information and Administrative Officer at Legacy Health. Prior to this, they were with Capella University from January 2008 to May 2012 where they served as part-time faculty, teaching various courses in health information and serving as a comprehensive examination grader. From February 2007 to March 2012, they were with Providence Health & Services as VP/CIO. In this role, they were responsible for strategic information systems and technology planning for the not-for-profit health care organization extending across five states—Alaska, Washington, Montana, Oregon and California. This included direct enterprise-wide IS divisions for applications, infrastructure technology, business intelligence, project management and IS contracting.

During their time at Providence Health & Services, John made many major accomplishments, including developing the Strategic Information Services Plan (2008-2014), which guided the overall IS strategy and direction. John also lead a centralized IS function in support of local and regional health care operations, with over 275 staff and $100 million annual operating budget. Under their leadership, the team achieved four successive years of unit cost reduction in infrastructure lines of service. In addition, they advocated for and direct an enterprise-wide business intelligence solution based on Microsoft Amalga. The implementation received the 2010 Microsoft Health User Group (MS-HUG) Innovation Award for life-saving Modified Early Warning System in Alaska.

John also oversaw the design and activation of advanced data center infrastructure, including 70% server virtualization and green utility

Their manager is Kathryn Correia, President & CEO. They are on a team with Bryce Helgerson - Chief Integration Officer, Sonja Steves - Chief Human Resources Officer, and Trent Green - Chief Operating Officer.
