Joshua E. Stevenson

Joshua E. Stevenson has a comprehensive background in the legal field, specifically in family law. Joshua E. is currently working as a Family Law Duty Counsel at Legal Aid Ontario since September 2022. Prior to this, they served as a Sole Practitioner at Stevenson Law starting in July 2020.

In 2019, Joshua worked as an Associate at McLeod Green Dewar LLP & Associates where they were part of a team specializing in family law, particularly in cases involving high conflict, custody, support arrears, and complex parenting plans. Joshua E. handled short motions, long motions, and led trials in Ontario and Superior courts.

Before starting their own practice, Joshua worked as a Lawyer at Joshua Stevenson, Barrister and Solicitor in 2017. Their primary focus was family law, including litigation and negotiation of domestic contracts. Joshua E. also expressed their intention to expand into the area of wills and estates in early 2018.

In 2017, Joshua gained valuable experience as a Placement Student at McLeod Green Dewar LLP & Associates. Joshua E. handled various responsibilities such as attending first appearance court, drafting pleadings, conducting legal research, assisting with trials, and successfully resolving a small claims case in mediation.

Joshua's legal career began in 2015 when they worked as a Lakehead University Community Legal Services Caseworker. Joshua E. demonstrated their abilities in the areas of provincial offences, landlord and tenant issues, and small claims. Additionally, they were involved in developing an electronic intake process and provided IT support for the implementation of new software.

Earlier in their career, Joshua worked outside the legal field. From 2013 to 2014, they served as a Sales Support Administrator at OpenText, where they reviewed contracts and developed tools for training and improving accuracy in finance operations. Prior to that, they worked as an Administrative Assistant at Babcock & Wilcox Canada, Ltd. and James Peluch (sole family law practitioner), where they provided administrative support and contributed to process improvements.

Joshua E. Stevenson received their Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) degree in Legal Studies from the University of Waterloo, where they studied from 2005 to 2010. Joshua E. then pursued a Doctor of Law - JD degree at Lakehead University from 2014 to 2017. In addition to their formal education, they obtained a certification as a Commissioner for Taking Affidavits from the Province of Ontario in March 2011.
