Tom Cowan has a diverse work experience spanning from 2002 to present. Tom started their career at Future Shop as a Product Expert, where they built customer rapport and gained experience in loss prevention and team work. Tom then moved on to Legal Aid Ontario, where they held various roles. As an Area Committee Coordinator, they were responsible for processing decisions from a panel of lawyers and lay members. As a Legal Aid Worker, they focused on refugee law and document preparation. Tom later became a Regional Business Analyst, providing analytical support for service delivery channels. Tom then served as a Regional Business Manager, overseeing regional budget management, service quality monitoring, and policy development. Currently, as the Director Clinic Law Services, they are accountable for strategic development and oversight of community legal clinics across Ontario. Tom ensures sustainability in funding and effective controls for continuity of operations.
Tom Cowan has a diverse education history spanning from 2001 to 2020. In 2001, they attended Centennial College, where they completed a Certificate in New Media Design. From 2002 to 2010, they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at York University. In 2012, they enrolled in three different programs to enhance their professional skills. Firstly, they completed a Certificate in Managing Today's Projects at the Canadian Management Centre. Secondly, they obtained a Certificate in Business Process Improvement, Modelling, and Management from Schulich ExecEd. Lastly, they attended the University of Toronto to study Foundations of Business Analysis. In 2013, they returned to Ryerson University and completed a Certificate in Accounting and Finance between 2013 and 2015.
Continuing their professional development, Tom attended Canadian Management Centre in 2015 for the Foundations of Management Excellence program. The same year, they enrolled at Ryerson University once again and completed a Certificate in Advanced Accounting from 2015 to 2020. Finally, in 2018, they attended a program called Beyond Foundations of Management at Building Blocks.
