Lucy McCalpin

Social Work Volunteer at Legal Services of Eastern Missouri

Lucy McCalpin has extensive experience in social work and organizational management, currently serving as a Board Member for the St. Joseph Housing Initiative since February 2022 and as a Social Work Volunteer for Legal Services of Eastern Missouri since December 2016. McCalpin contributed as a Helpline Volunteer for the Alzheimer's Association® from August 2017 to March 2020 and held the roles of Social Worker and Volunteer Coordinator at the St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired from January 2011 to April 2016. Earlier career experience includes working as an Advancement Research Associate for Provident, Inc., where responsibilities involved research for the agency's 150th anniversary celebrations, and as Program Manager at KidSmart-Tools for Learning from January 2002 to April 2008, focusing on grant writing to support educational initiatives for low-income students. McCalpin holds an MA Ed in Human Resource Management from Washington University in St. Louis and a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Legal Services of Eastern Missouri advances justice through legal representation, education and supportive services. We partner with the community to improve lives, promote fairness and create opportunities for those in need. With offices in St. Louis, Clayton, Union and Hannibal, Legal Services serves 21 counties in eastern Missouri with a range of legal programs including: Advocates for Family Health, Children's Legal Alliance, Community Economic Development Program, Connecting Kids to Coverage, Consumer Law Program, Education Justice Program, Elder Law Program, Family Court Program, Housing Law Program, Immigration Law Program, Lasting Solutions Family Law Program, Legal Advocates for Adults with Mental Illness Program, Marketplace Assistance Program, Medical-Legal Partnership, Public Benefits Program and the Youth & Family Advocacy Program. In 2016, Legal Services helped more than 31,000 Missourians, with over 12,000 helped through direct case work and an additional 19,000 helped through outreach, education, publications and referrals. 15,791 volunteer hours were provided by more than 520 individuals. Legal Services of Eastern Missouri is proud to be a Legal Services Corporation (LSC) grantee, and we comply with all LSC conditions and prohibitions in acceptance of all funds.
