Legia was founded in 1916 by soldiers of Marshal Józef Piłsudski on the Eastern Front of World War I. As the only Polish club, Legia played twice in the UEFA Champions League group stage — in the 1995/1996 and 2016/17 seasons. The club's greatest achievements internationally are the 1969/1970 European Cup semi-final, the 1990/1991 Cup Winners’ Cup semi-final, and the 1995/1996 UEFA Champions League quarter-final. In 2020 the club opened Legia Training Center — the state-of-the-art facility of this kind in Central Europe.
