Daniel F. Carlson

Daniel F. Carlson is a highly experienced researcher and leader in the field of oceanography, currently serving as Department Co Lead at Leibniz-Institut für Ostseeforschung Warnemünde since October 2025 while also owning Squirm Tech LLC, which specializes in making marine robotics and ocean data accessible for researchers and educators. Carlson's extensive background includes roles as a Scientist at Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht and as an Assistant Professor at Aarhus University, where research focused on ice-ocean interactions in Greenland. Prior experience encompasses a postdoctoral position at Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche studying marine transport pathways, and significant contributions at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and as a Fulbright Student at Weizmann Institute of Science. Education includes a PhD in Physical Oceanography from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, along with degrees in oceanography and physics.
