Annette Breckwoldt

Senior Scientist, Co-lead Programme Area 5: Ocean Literacy, Equity And Leadership at Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) GmbH

Annette Breckwoldt has a diverse work experience in various scientific and research roles. Annette began their career as a Student Research Technician at the Alfred-Wegener-Institute for Polar and Marine Research in 1996. Annette later worked as a Project Assistant at the Leibniz-Zentrum für Marine Tropenökologie in 2002. From 2006 to 2013, Annette worked as a Freelance Research Assistant at the Foundation for Environmental Conservation. Annette also had a role as a Freelance Translator at Isotranslations from 2007 to 2011.

In 2001, Annette worked as a Consultant at UNESCO. Annette then joined the University of Bremen and the Leibniz-Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) as a Lecturer (temporary) in 2009. Annette's research career continued at the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz centre for polar and marine research, where they held the roles of Postdoctoral Scientist and Guest Scientist, specializing in Science-Stakeholder Interaction Processes and the Earth System Knowledge Platform.

Annette returned to ZMT in 2014 as a Scientist and progressed to become a Senior Scientist and Principal Investigator of the SOCPacific.net Project in 2018. Annette temporarily took on the role of Head of Office for Knowledge Exchange in 2023 as a parental replacement. Annette's latest work experience is as a Guest Scientist for Science Stakeholder Interaction Processes at the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz centre for polar and marine research in 2023.

Annette Breckwoldt began their education in 1994 at Schulzentrum SII Utbremen Bremen, where they completed a degree in Staatlich geprüfte Biologisch-Technische Assistentin from 1994 to 1996. Annette then pursued further studies at University of Bremen from 1996 to 2001, earning a Diplom degree in Biologie, Meeresbiologie, Ozeanographie, Zoologie.

In 2000 and 2001, Annette conducted fieldwork for their Master's thesis in Marine Biology at Windward Community College. Annette later enrolled at the University of the South Pacific in 2003 and 2004 to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. Annette'sspecific field of study during this time is not mentioned.

Lastly, Annette attended Newcastle University from 2002 to 2006, where they completed their second PhD in Marine Biology and Coastal Zone Management. Annette'sresearch focused on the fields of Marine Biology and Coastal Zone Management during this period.
