Rupert Matthews

Rupert Matthews currently serves as the Police and Crime Commissioner for Leicestershire Police, a role focused on meeting community policing needs, fostering public trust, and enhancing police accountability. With extensive experience as a freelance historian since 1988, Rupert has authored over 170 books and served as a historical consultant for various media projects, including films and television. Rupert co-founded Bretwalda Books and has held the position of Editorial Director since 2010, while also previously serving as a Member of the European Parliament and contributing to significant campaigns such as the EU Referendum. Rupert’s background includes leadership roles in the Conservative Party and experience as an editor at Octopus Publishing Group.
