Nicole Tucker-Smith began their work experience in 2000 as a Teacher in Baltimore City Public Schools. From 2004 to 2006, they worked as a Program Coordinator at The Johns Hopkins University. Nicole then joined Baltimore County Public Schools and held various roles including Supervisor of Parent Support Services from 2006 to 2008, and Coordinator of Professional Development and Training from 2008 to 2010.
