Maxie R. Jones, IV

Commissioner at Liberty County Georgia

Commissioner Maxie R. Jones, IV was born to the late Maxie R. Jones, Jr. and the late Margaret B. Jones in Liberty County, Georgia. His parents experienced tragedy as they lost six children in a house fire, prior to having a second set of kids. Mr. Jones grew up in the Freedman Grove Community near Midway, Georgia. He attended the former Liberty Elementary School, Hinesville Middle School, and finished at Bradwell Institute. He attended South University in Savannah (on-line classes), majoring in Criminal Justice.

Mr. Jones started working at DS Smith (formerly Interstate Paper) in 1979 and has been a dedicated employee for the past forty-one years. He is currently a crew leader on his shift and serves as Vice President of Local 1354 of the United Steel Workers Labor Union.

He has been married to the lovely Michelle Diane Jones for twenty-eight years, and they are the proud parents of three adult children. In addition, the Jones are the proud grandparents of two grandchildren.

Mr. Jones is life-long member of the St. James African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in the Freedom Grove Community. As a member, he serves on the Steward Board, the Trustee Board, and is the president of the Usher Board.
