Gijs Stevers has a diverse range of work experience in the renewable energy field. Gijs started their career as a student assistant at A.P. Moller - Maersk Group, where they assisted in developing the group's Climate Change Strategy and sustainability reports. Gijs also initiated a network for students working for the company.
Afterwards, Stevers took on various internships and jobs, including conducting feasibility studies for Concentrated Solar Power in Namibia and Mozambique, managing a budget for a student union, setting up a website for trading African currency, and developing a sustainability indicator for bonds during an internship at ABN AMRO Bank. Gijs also researched tourism activities for a lodge in Zambia and evaluated prospective students for EF Education's High School Year program.
In 2012, Stevers embarked on a 19,800km journey from Norway to South Africa on an electric bicycle, exploring the renewable energy sector along the way.
Stevers then joined Sungevity International, a residential solar company, as the Head of Operations. Gijs later became the Head of Customer Care and a Customer Care Project Manager. During their time at Sungevity, they recruited and led a team of solar specialists and project managers, coordinating procurement, installations, and aftersales service for customers in the Netherlands, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
After leaving Sungevity, Stevers worked as a Business Development Manager at Power Providers Tanzania, an off-grid solar company. Gijs started a sales and marketing department and implemented new marketing channels to boost sales.
Most recently, Stevers joined Libra Energy as the Chief Technology Officer. In this role, they oversee the distribution and wholesale of sustainable energy products, with a focus on solar energy, energy storage, and e-mobility. Gijs leads a team of 100 employees serving customers in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Gijs Stevers has a diverse education background. Gijs completed their MSc. in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics at Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen from 2009 to 2012. Gijs also holds an Honours degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences, with a focus on Economics and Geography, which they completed at University College Utrecht from 2005 to 2008. Prior to that, they obtained their High School A-Levels at St. Laurent Collegiate in Canada in 2005. Lastly, they completed their VWO at Eckart College from 1998 to 2004, focusing on Nature & Technology and taking electives in Management & Organisation, Economics, and Geography.
