Ruth Zhang has a diverse background in research, clinical research, and volunteer work. In 2013, they began volunteering at the University of Missouri Health Care, where they served more than 3000 patients and learned about patient and doctor relationships. In 2015, they began a research volunteer position at the University of Missouri - Columbia, where they worked with drosophila and focused on neural pathways within the drosophila's brain. From 2018-2020, they held various roles at George Mason University, including Research Assistant and Laboratory Assistant. In 2021, they began a Senior Research Associate position at Sanaria Inc. and, in 2022, they began a Researcher position at the Lieber Institute for Brain Development, where they are performing RNA and DNA extractions from in-house prepared frozen human brain tissue, preforming pre-RIN analysis and GWAS genotyping, and working with 96-well plates for PCR preparations.

Ruth Zhang completed their Bachelor's degree in Biology, General from the University of Missouri-Columbia between 2013 and 2017. Ruth then went on to earn their Master's degree in Biology/Biological Sciences, General from George Mason University between 2018 and 2020. Ruth also obtained a CPR certification from Sanaria Inc. in March 2022.
