Bernadette Matthews

Principal Research Associate And General Manager Health Promotion & Communications at Life Saving Victoria

Bernadette Matthews has an extensive work experience in the field of research and health promotion. Their most recent role is an Adjunct Associate Professor (Research) at Monash University, which they started in November 2022. Prior to that, they were the Chair of the National Research Advisory Working Group at Surf Life Saving Australia since April 2021.

From 2019 to the present, Bernadette held the position of Principal Research Associate and General Manager of Health Promotion & Communications at Life Saving Victoria. Before that, they were a Principal Research Associate from 2014 to 2019 and the Manager of Research and Injury Prevention from 2005 to 2014 at the same organization.

In 2003, Bernadette worked as a Research Fellow at The University of Melbourne, Centre for Health, Exercise & Sports Medicine. During this time, they conducted research on osteoporosis prevention and self-management programs, exercise prescription for postmenopausal women at risk of osteoporosis, and physiotherapy treatment programs for individuals with osteoporosis.

From 2000 to 2004, Bernadette Matthews pursued their PhD in Health Sciences at The University of Melbourne.
