Patrick Leamy, PhD, CISS(AAMI) has a diverse work experience in the field of biomaterials and tissue regeneration. Patrick is currently serving as the Director of Research & Development at LifeLink Foundation, leading a team of scientists and engineers in the development of biomaterials for tissue regeneration. In this role, they support new product development from early stage research to validation and process transfer to manufacturing, and also develops processes for tissue cleaning and sterilization.
Prior to joining LifeLink Foundation, Dr. Leamy worked as the President of Sterilization & Biomaterial Solutions LLC. Patrick also served as an Associate Director at Zimmer Biomet, where they were responsible for functional leadership in terminal sterilization and environmental services. Patrick led the development of product bioburden reduction and terminal sterilization processes and worked on continuous improvement and resolving non-conformance reports and corrective and preventive actions.
Dr. Leamy has extensive experience in the regenerative technologies field, having worked as an Associate Director at LifeCell Corporation, an Allergan Affiliate. In this role, they served as the principal investigator on a department of defense grant and was responsible for scientific lead in concept and product development projects. Patrick also managed direct reports, providing career development and technical advisement.
Previously, Dr. Leamy worked at Synthes as a Materials Science Engineer, where they formulated and tested composite polymer-calcium phosphate cement products. Patrick also collaborated with an outside vendor on aseptic filling of the solution component of the cement.
Earlier in their career, Dr. Leamy worked as a research associate and teaching assistant at the University of Florida and as a materials engineer at Framatome Connectors. At the University of Florida, they conducted research and assisted in teaching, while at Framatome Connectors, they determined the cause of product failures and tested materials and electrical connectors.
Dr. Leamy began their career as a research assistant at Penn State University, where they were involved in research projects.
Overall, Dr. Patrick Leamy, with their extensive experience and expertise in biomaterials and tissue regeneration, has made significant contributions in research, development, and leadership roles throughout their career.
Patrick Leamy, PhD, CISS(AAMI) obtained their Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, graduating in 1993. Patrick then pursued a Master of Science in Materials from Penn State University, completing their degree in 1997. Their educational journey continued with a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Florida, which they obtained in 2003. In addition to their academic qualifications, Patrick has also earned the certification of Certified Industrial Sterilization Specialist (CISS) from the American Association of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) in May 2021.
