Marcel Karperien

Marcel Karperien began their career in 1991 as a PhD-student at the Hubrecht Institute. In 1995, they became an Associate Professor at the Leiden University Medical Center. In 2006, they co-founded the biotech company Percuros B.V., which provides services in therapy and drug development using cell and animal models combined with sophisticated non-invasive and longitudinal imaging. In 2012, they became a Professor in Developmental BioEngineering at the University of Twente, where their research group aimed to develop an injectable plaster to cure osteoarthritis. In 2014, they founded Hy2Care B.V., and in 2015 they founded LipoCoat BV, which has developed an innovative universal method for introducing a non-fouling biomimetic coating on any type of material.

Marcel Karperien received their PhD degree in Molecular Developmental Biology from Utrecht University in 1995. Marcel had previously obtained their Master's degree in Molecular Biology from the same university in 1991.
