Rob Podlasek oversees the training of volunteer literacy tutors working with adults and children. He began his involvement with Literacy Minnesota as a volunteer tutor in 1986. He served one year as a VISTA volunteer with the organization, creating the English as a Second Language tutoring program at our North Minneapolis site. He then joined the staff in 1988 as a learning center coordinator in South Minneapolis. He has been coordinating tutor training since 1991. Over the years he has led hundreds of workshops and trained thousands of individuals. He strongly advocates for volunteers and volunteer programming and believes that it “takes a village” to solve our country’s literacy issues. He holds a BA in English and Speech-Communication from the University of Minnesota. Outside of work he enjoys gardening, running, and family history research.
