Steve Chappell

Steve Chappell has worked in a variety of roles since 1996. Steve began their career as a Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, where they were commended for their work leading the nuclear physics research group. Steve then moved to Celoxica as a Design Services Manager, eventually being promoted to Applications Engineering Director. In 2006, they were promoted to VP, Representative Director at Agility Japan KK, where they developed rapid prototypes of machine vision and signal processors for major semiconductor firms. In 2009, they joined Oxford Instruments as Business Group Manager and Technical Director, leading the development of products, people and processes. In 2018, they were appointed VP Technology at York Instruments Ltd, where they developed tools for the diagnosis of concussion, epilepsy and dementia. Currently, they are CTO at Living Optics, building a "Deep tech" Oxford startup from the ground up.

Steve Chappell attended the University of York from 1989 to 1995, obtaining a BSc Hons I in Physics in 1992 and a DPhil in Nuclear Physics in 1995. Steve also holds a Chartered Engineer certification from the Engineering Council and a Chartered Physicist certification from the Institute of Physics.
