Waldemar Hummer

Waldemar Hummer has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Waldemar is currently the Co-Founder and CTO/CEO at LocalStack since May 2021. Prior to this, they served as the Head of Engineering at Zurich Insurance Company Ltd from March 2020 to June 2021. Before that, Waldemar was the CTO/VP of Engineering at Advanon AG, a leading Swiss FinTech company, from February 2019 to March 2020. Waldemar played a crucial role in the technology transformation of the platform, leading to its successful acquisition by CreditGate24.

Waldemar also has experience working at prominent tech companies such as IBM and Atlassian. At IBM, they served as a Cloud/AI Tech Lead & Architect from September 2017 to March 2019. At Atlassian, they held the positions of Development Team Lead from February 2017 to August 2017 and Senior Lead Developer (Analytics & Integration Team) from February 2016 to February 2017.

Additionally, Waldemar has worked as a Cloud/Big Data Consultant as a freelancer for a startup company from September 2014 to January 2016. Waldemar also has research experience, having worked as a Senior Researcher (Post-Doc) at Vienna University of Technology from January 2010 to October 2015. Waldemar has undertaken research internships at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in 2012 and IBM Haifa Research Labs in 2010. Prior to these roles, Waldemar worked as an R&D Software Engineer at Bloomberg LP for a brief period in 2008.

Waldemar Hummer received a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Computer Science from Universität Innsbruck in 2007. Waldemar then attended Technische Universität Wien and obtained a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Computer Science in 2009. Afterwards, they pursued a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Business Administration from WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business), which they completed in 2010. Finally, Waldemar Hummer completed their education at Technische Universität Wien, receiving a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Computer Science in 2014.
