Joel van Valkenhoef has over 20 years of experience in translation and localization. Joel van Valkenhoef started as a freelance translator in 2000 at Textcase, where they gained valuable experience translating novels and non-fiction. In 2007, they joined Radboud in'to Languages as a translator and also worked as an interim translation project manager, honing their project management skills. In 2008, Joel founded Cross Border Translation (CBT), where they started as a freelance translator and later expanded the company, building a team of qualified translation specialists and project managers. CBT works with a dedicated staff and a network of skilled language specialists. Joel has also worked as a freelance translator for Taalcentrum-VU. Since 2018, CBT has been providing video script translations for Loft Film GmbH and actively supporting their expansion into the English-speaking market. Throughout their career, Joel has acquired extensive skills in Dutch-English/English-Dutch translation and utilizes them daily to ensure high-quality translations for CBT's clients.

Joel van Valkenhoef's education history includes a Bachelor's Degree in Linguistics, Spanish language, Spanish and English translation from Radboud University, which they completed from 2004 to 2008. In 2001 to 2002, they obtained a Propedeuse degree in Anthropology & Sociology from the University of Amsterdam. Joel van Valkenhoef also completed their International Bacalaureate in English, Biology, and Natural Economy from the University of Cambridge from 1997 to 2001. Additionally, they attended Lorentz Lyceum where they obtained a VWO degree in VWO bovenbouw (1998-2000) and a TVWO degree in Tweetalige VWO (Engels en Nederlands) from 1994 to 1998.

In terms of additional certifications, they obtained a certificate in "Jodi Glickman on Pitching Yourself" from LinkedIn in January 2019. Additionally, in 2014, Joel participated in the Open Circles Business Bootcamp, although no degree or field of study is specified for this program. Finally, in 2007, they completed a Bachelor thesis project in Spanish Language and Culture, Linguistics at Universidad de Granada.
