Polat Kaya has extensive experience in professional basketball, transitioning from a successful career as a professional athlete to coaching. Kaya is currently serving as the Assistant Men Basketball Coach for the London Lions since May 2022. Prior to this role, Kaya played professionally for several teams, including Turk Telekom Spor Kulubu, SOCAR Türkiye, TED Ankara Kolejliler Spor Kulübü, Trabzonspor, Banvit A.S., and Darüşşafaka Spor Kulübü, with a career spanning from 1999 to 2020. Kaya holds a degree from Selcuk University.

The London Lions

The London Lions are a member of the British Basketball League (BBL) and won the league championship in 2019. Founded in 1977 as the Hemel Hempstead Lakers, the team moved to London and rebranded in 2013. The Lions have made the BBL playoffs every year since their founding and won the inaugural British Basketball All Stars trophy in 2017. The team enjoys a formidable home court advantage at the Copper Box, a 2012 London Olympics venue.
