Gavin MacKay

Gavin Mackay has a diverse work experience, with a particular focus on business development and corporate strategy. Gavin started their career as a Candidate Attorney at Werksmans Attorneys, where they gained experience in commercial litigation and the commercial department. After becoming a qualified attorney, Gavin joined Maitland as an Associate before moving on to J.P. Morgan as a Senior Associate in the Investment Banking Group. At J.P. Morgan, they primarily focused on corporate broking, including IPOs and capital markets products, with a strong emphasis on metals and mining. Gavin then joined FERREXPO PLC as the Group Manager for Business Development, where they were also responsible for investor relations and corporate communications. Gavin later worked at Aquarius Platinum Limited as a Business Development & Communications Executive, where they played a key role in corporate strategy, M&A, investor relations, and communication. Prior to their current role, Gavin served as the General Manager - Head of Commercial Strategy at ArcelorMittal, where they were a member of several groups, including Business Development and Operational Excellence. Currently, Gavin is a Senior Managing Director at Lone Star Funds.

Gavin Mackay pursued their education in a sequential manner. Gavin began by obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and English Literature from the University of Cape Town, where they studied from 1993 to 1997. After completing this undergraduate degree, Gavin enrolled at the University of the Witwatersrand to pursue a Bachelor of Laws degree, specializing in Law. Gavin attended this institution from 1998 to 2000. Following the completion of their LLB, Gavin continued their legal studies at the University of the Witwatersrand by pursuing a Master of Laws degree with a focus on Tax Law/Taxation. This postgraduate program took place from 2000 to 2002, concluding Gavin Mackay's formal education history.
