Los Angeles City Attorney
John Heath serves as the Chief Assistant City Attorney for the Los Angeles City Attorney's office since February 2023, leading the Real Estate Branch and advising city officials on land use, real estate, homelessness, and housing issues. Previously, John held the position of Executive Director and Director of Property Management at New Life Economic Development from 2011 to June 2023, where efforts focused on affordable housing development and property management. Earlier experience includes being the Managing Principal at New Urban Vision and President of Affordable Housing at Capital Vision Equities, along with roles at Fulbright & Jaworski LLP and Nossaman, Guthner, Knox & Elliott, LLP in public finance and legal practice. John began a career as an Electrical Engineer at the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power. Educational qualifications include a JD from the University of California, Berkeley, an MSEE from the University of Southern California, and dual degrees in Engineering from Morehouse College and the Georgia Institute of Technology.
